Chapter #1, Volume #1: Raijin Thunder Strikes!!
"It's heading to Winchester Dr." River bemoaned.
"Come on, the source changed again!?" Ash complained.
After all, this was the forth time the Darkbeast changed directions. It was getting to be extremely annoying.
But eventually...
"HA! Found you at last!"
They had cornered it in the town square.
Before the group stood a massive boar cloaked entirly in shadow... Despite the fact it was 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
"Careful, the readings on this one are off the charts." River reminded her.
"Got it." Terra proclamed, staring down the beast.
"Alright Terra, you and River flank it from the sides, i'll take it head on." Ash instructed, As they all drew forth their weaapons: A scythe for Ash, a halberd for River, and a hammer for Terra.
"Three."
The boar reared it's ugly head.
"Two."
It started pawing at the ground.
"One"
The beast lunged forward.
"ATTACK!" Ash shouted.
Litte did she know, the beast was already dead.
In an instant, a blur appeared at the beast's side, slashing open it's flesh like a hot knife through butter. Before the boar's guts even hit the floor, the blur had Leaped up onto a nearby wall.
Where ash could finally get a good look at her.
She was adorned with a beautiful dress, long gloves, and tall boots, just like herself. Emblazened with lightning bolts, and carrying a wicked sword.
Tying the whole look together was a full-face mask in th image of a Rajin, a thunder spirit.
"Found you at last." the stranger remarked.
"Who the HELL are you?!" Ash yelled back.
"That's not important right now."
Ash hated non-replies.
"What I want to know..."
Ash, Terra, and River all lifted their weapons.
"Where is your Master?"
"I uh... What?" Ash asked, absolutely bewildered.
"I asked you where your master is."
"I don't think we're supposed to tell you that." River stepped in.
The stranger sighed, jumping down from the wall.
"Do any of you know how hard it is to capture a LIVE Darkbeast?"
"Wait, you cap-" Ash started.
"And transport it here to lure you three in?"
"Wait a second... YOU'RE the one who sent us on this chase?!" Ash was in disbelief.
"Of course. you don't exactly have a toll-free number."
"...that's it."
"Sending them on a wild goose chase for TWO HOURS was taking things too far. Ash... had heard enough.
"For real this time! ATTACK!"
Ash had led the charge many times by this point, And she had it down to a science.
Feint high and to the left, and when they dodge to the right...
WHOOSH!
As she spun her scythe to the right it met with nothing but air, her opponent Had simply dodged even further left.
The exact opposite of what was supposed to happen.
CLANG!!
River had tried to go in for a thrust, but was quickly denied any purchase, her halberd knocked away. Ash and Terra flanked her on both sides, going on the offence. Her response... was to draw another sword.
CLANG! CRACK!!
With one hand she held Ash's scythe in a bind, the other had forced Terra's hammer down, her strength cracking the pavement. Yet even after that, Terra still went in for a second attack...
Hummmmmm... BOOM!
Only to be blasted away by lightning.
in hindsight, the dress should have made it obvious, but it still surprised her.
"TAKE THIS!!".
CLANG! WHOOSH! SHING! CLANG!
Ash unleashed a flurry of strikes, all of which were parried, blocked, or simply dodged. Even jumping up for a massive spin attack didn't work.
Much to Ash's chagrin.
"What the hell is she.." Ash breathed heavely with Exhaustion.
"HAH!" River had snuck up behind her and frose her boots to the floor, trapping her. This was her chance. Ash charged up terrifying amounts of magical power, And let loose, the energies swirling and forming into a flying crescent of flame. No way out of this one.
CRACK!
A yellowish-gray blur leaped out from beyond the flames, landing Just behind Ash, as she spun around to meet her.
"The ice was a pretty good idea."
A few shards still clinged to her boots.
"But i've got places to be, and if we keep up this dance, we'll be here forever." the stranger remarked. "Time to finish this."
"Agreed." Ash wanted this over with.
Sparks started shimmering across the stranger's dual swords, as Ash settled into a battle stance. They both rushed forward with the intent to settle this in one decisive strike.
CLANG! CLATTER!
The stranger won out, as Ash's scythe hit the floor.
"Done and dusted. goodbye for now."
The stranger leaped away, the buildings covering her escape.
"ugh, owwww." Terra bemoaned, as River helped her up.
"you good?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, just give me a moment."
"Alright." *Huff* *puff*
A smallish cat adorned with jewelry aproched slowly, burnt out from running on tiny legs.
"Angel Fire, Angel Water, and Angel Earth!"
"How amazing it is to see you today!"
"Not now Nevor, we just had our asses kicked." Ash was too tired to deal with him.
"Oh? I'm sorry, i wasn't aware you owned donkeys."
Absolutely unaware of all types of swears.
"Might i ask, who did all this to you?"
Nevor gestured to the slight property damage and slowly-melting ice.
"Some girl with lightning powers."
"I see." Nevor replied.
"I came here tracking a disturbance, unlike anything i've ever seen."
"Was it a Darkbeast?" Ash interjected.
"No, not at all. It looked like it was the absolute absence of magic..."
"But that can't be right."
Ash sighed. "I have the feeling your 'disturbance' was what thrashed us."
"I think you're right."
